What is oral surgery?

Oral surgery includes procedures involving teeth, jawbone and surrounding soft tissues. Impacted wisdom teeth, complex extractions, pre-implant surgery and assessment of oral lesions are common areas.

Not every impacted tooth needs removal. Pain, infection, decay, damage to a neighbouring tooth and radiographic findings are considered together.

• Impacted or partially erupted wisdom teeth
• Fractured roots and complex extractions
• Bone and soft-tissue procedures before implants
• Cyst-like changes in the jaw or mouth
• Surgical exposure of impacted teeth for orthodontics
• Assessment of jaw-joint symptoms with relevant disciplines

Planning and aftercare

1. Medical history, medication and allergies are reviewed.
2. Clinical examination and necessary imaging are completed.
3. The procedure, anaesthesia and possible risks are explained.
4. Personal instructions are given for diet, cleaning and medication.
5. Healing reviews are arranged when required.

When should you contact the clinic?

Seek prompt clinical or emergency advice for increasing swelling, bleeding that does not stop, high fever, or difficulty breathing or swallowing.
